Hello cadet Petty Officer Hannah Ford here blogging on our last night in San Diego. Today was a great day! We began by touring the Pacific Becan Barracks on the same base we are staying at. They were so nice! They had over 1,000 rooms! After the tour we finally hit the beach! All of the Cadets were so excited! Gy Sgt Smith BBQ'd some hamburgers and hotdogs for noon chow. The cadets spend almost the rest of the day hanging out at the beach! All of the cadets are now packing their bags and are ready to head home in the morning to see their families!
Eureka NJROTChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02202630309742839111noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5781687298030381087.post-30849370623550905622011-04-22T22:51:00.000-07:002011-04-26T15:34:41.260-07:00San Diego Orientation Trip (Day 5)

Today our unit toured the aerospace facility in which Gy Sgt worked, and climbed Iron Mountain. This Aerospace facility we toured was a trove of knowledge. For example, we learned all about jet engine propulsion manufacture of parts and quality inspection. Next we embarked on Iron Mountain. The 3 mile, steep incline journey was both exhausting and perilous. Standing at the peak gave all cadets who made it a huge sense of accomplishment. After that, we went to see a Padres vs. Phillies baseball game. The Phillies scored 3 runs in the first couple of innings and maintained that lead until the end and won. –Glenn Lianoz

Hello there, this is Cadet Ensign Nichols and LTJG Tulmau, today is 20th of April 2011. Today Cadets had the fun opportunity to be able to go to San Diego Sea World. This morning 6 of our Cadets were able to go to the gym with Capt. Neeson and worked out for about an hour. At 0700 the cadets were out and ready to got for chow. After chow the cadets had a couple hours of down time before we went to Sea World. At 0900 we prepared ourselves and moved out to San Diego Sea World. We had a lot of fun with rides, shows, games, stores, and many more wet and cool things.

The day started off with an excellent breakfast in our base’s chow hall. After eating we hopped into the vehicles to drive over to the base’s harbor for a tour of the USS Kidd. Everybody had plenty of questions for the tour crew and they all learned facts about the ship that they were interested in. After the completion of our tour, the cadets gathered into the vehicles to return to our barrack’s to change into our civilian clothes and prepare for our trip to Old Town, San Diego. The cadets cruised about the streets checking out all the stores for souvenirs and other gifts for themselves and family members. Afterwards we returned to our barracks for evening chow and then to our rooms to hang out and decompress from the excitingly eventful day.”—Ryan Comer

Afterwards the whole unit went to go see the C130, where all the crew came out and explained their jobs. The cadets asked many questions, got to view the cockpit (the control system of the plane), and they got to view the cargo hold. Cadets got to see the FA18 and the NV22. To end the day the cadets got to relax by going to the gym and pool to have some fun. We have started off the year and hit the ground running. We have performed 100's of service hours so far and will perform 100's more by the time school ends. Let me fill you in on what we have planned for the rest of Oct.

1. Mini-Bootcamp runs from 15 - 17 Oct. we will leave school by 3:45 and transport all of the cadets out to Riggs Scout Camp on Elk river Road. Graduation will be at 10:00 am sharp on the morning of the 17th. Please be on time to pick up your cadet. A letter with directions and more information will be handed out on Wed. the 13th, so do a back pack check. The bootcamp is worth 200 points in their grade.

2. After school we will kick off rifle team this week on Mondays and Tuesdays to start. If I don't get enough participation for the drill team I will cancel drill and concentrate on orienteering on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Usually those practices start after school and run until 4:30 or 5:00

3. We are planning a Halloween Paint Ball on Oct 30th if we get enough participation. More to follow on that towards the end of Oct.

4. We do have Pop-Up events that we get on short notice and I will try to get those on the blog as soon as the come up.

5. So far it's been a great year and your cadets are snapping in fine. I will attach a copy of our newsletter to the blog once a month so look for your cadet in the newsletter. My phone, email, and door is always open for any questions or concerns. work 441-2540, cell 599-6942, smithdarrin@eurekacityschools.org
